peace out, bitches!

5.16.2008 @ 11:42 PM

tomorrow morning, bright and early, i leave for ecuador.  hopefully, i will return with photos of blue-footed boobies, sea lions, and monkeys galore!  we’ll be in quito, the galapagos islands, and the amazon rainforest, so cross your fingers that i don’t get eaten by piranhas!  see you in 11 days!

rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me*

5.13.2008 @ 6:45 PM

sunday night, for the first time in several years, one of my all-time favorite bands came to play in the washington, DC area. for those of you who live in the area, you know that there was a crazy rainstorm sunday night that caused a lot of roads to flood, making it impossible for many fans to get in to see the show. it rained heavily nonstop for hours, but despite the amazing deluge, it was one of the best concerts i’ve ever attended!

“tailgating” before the show with whole foods fare and knitting

a lot of people have had a lot of bad things to say about the weather and about nissan pavilion, but if you’ve ever been to a show at nissan, you should know that you have to leave early and that parking sucks. no, the venue is not easily accessible (compared to the verizon center) and yes, parking sucks, but plan ahead, people! we met my cousin in fairfax (who came from DC proper) around 5:45 and arrived in bristow 20 minutes later without any issues.

making use of my wellies

we had an awesome time tailgating for about an hour and a half before we headed inside to see an amazing show from section 103 (thank god we didn’t have lawn seats!). i’ve heard a lot of horror stories about how it takes three hours to exit the parking lot (i can’t say i’ve ever experienced this in all the times i’ve been there), but we only had to wait for about 20 minutes and were home by midnight!

have you noticed how much i truly love self-portraits?

throughout the entire show, we were soaking wet and freezing cold, and and my jeans were so wet that they were suctioned to my thighs, but we still had an amazing time. we got so wet that the tampons in my bag exploded!

see how wet it was?

our seats were pretty good!

total flood.

i can’t wait until the next time i get to see them play live. i posted some more photos from the show on flickr, and the full set list is after the jump!

i went to MDSW and all i got was this lousy pair of circular needles

5.06.2008 @ 4:31 PM

i made it to my first ever MDSW this past sunday and i have absolutely nothing to show for it. that’s right, jody (who i was so excited to meet that i failed to take a photo!) will be disappointed to hear that i bought nothing other than one pair of circular needles! sad, isn’t it?

i am still on a yarn diet, so i wasn’t intending to buy anything, but i figured that if i saw something i really loved, i’d buy it! i guess i just didn’t fall in love with anything i saw. sad face.

jess, liz, katie, and i arrived around 8:30 (yes, ass-early for a sunday morning.) and made sure to see every single booth. to say that i was tired by the end of the day is an understatement.

i spied this silly woman illegally parked and had to give her a ticket! (gosh, am i a dork or what?!)

alpaca!

the most ridiculously-dressed llama i’ve ever seen! check out those pants!

brooks farm fiber.

baby alpaca!!

i love baby, the seven-month-old alpaca! he has a nice ass, does he not? (i look ridiculous, i know.)

and finally, four and a half hours later, i got to meet jess and casey! i’m pretty sure that i was babbling and not making any sense, and i probably made an ass of myself, but i don’t care!

i think i was expecting MDSW to be bigger (perhaps it was overhyped?), but i would definitely like to go again next year! the company was great, and i’m really looking forward to meeting more ravelrers (is that a word?) and knitbloggers in the future! if you want to see more photos, check out my flickr!

and now, because i love picture-heavy posts, i’ll leave you with a few more photos. here is the beautiful yarn i received yesterday from sarah, courtesy of her new yarn club, plucky classics! i always rave about sarah’s yarn, so you should definitely go get some for yourself!

and of course, what would a post be without some photos of my “special” pups?

i’m a liar and a thief*
